Classic Car Road Trip – LA to Las Vegas

Have you been thinking about taking a road trip from LA to Vegas, or perhaps the other way around? Check out our first-hand account of a recent travel experience, on a road trip in the USA.

If you have never done this road trip, I would highly recommend it!

Price-wise, even the cheapest flight is usually going to be at least $100-$120 per person, one way from LA to Vegas. If you can spare the time (approx 3 and a half to 4 hours), you can spring for a Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro (shown in the photo), and since the cost of petrol in the US is so cheap, you will still come out ahead — and you will have had something to brag about to your friends!

Alternatively, you can rent a car for a few days, and make your way around to some of the nearby Vegas sites, such as the Hoover Dam and even a little bit further to the Grand Canyon.

In order to avoid having to pay what is called a ‘one way’ fee for picking your car up in one city, and dropping it off in another, I would suggest renting with Alamo, as they are one of the fee car hire companies who waive these fees.

There are lots of little rest stops along the way to stretch your legs, and although there are vast stretches of desert landscape for miles on end, it is always nice to see the mountains in the distance, as well. If you are lucky enough to see the sign for ‘Inn n out’ burgers, do yourself a favour, and stop there. You’ll thank me later!

Be sure to watch for California and Nevada highway patrol who are always looking to hand out speeding fines to unsuspecting tourists (I came very close to getting one myself, but they went for the car behind instead of me)!

Nothing compares to the feeling of cruising in to Las Vegas in the car of your choice. Do make sure that you check the parking policy of your hotel ahead of time though, as it varies by each hotel — especially those that are located on the Strip.
